History & Mission

History

DARO was founded in 1935 by Dunbar A. Rosenthal (DARO is an acronym of his initials). Now, with over 60 employees, DARO remains a strong leader in owner-managed firms of the Metropolitan DC area. The company’s building portfolio is concentrated throughout several of Washington, DC’s premier neighborhoods. In fact, DARO still owns Mr. Rosenthal’s first apartment building, Randall Mansions, located in the historic Mt. Pleasant area of Washington, DC. It is our mission to provide quality housing; a mission that is demonstrated daily through continual modernization projects at each property. Since the year 2000, countless efforts have been made to improve the quality and condition of DARO’s entire portfolio of buildings. Numerous restoration, modernization and replacement projects are just a few ways in which the DARO difference is clearly validated.
