Have you ever wondered what goes into the old structure’s that make up the landscape near apartments DC for rent , including the Washington National Cathedral? Shhhhh, it’s a secret! Well not anymore! Not if you take the Secrets of Washington National Cathedral Tour!

The Washington National Cathedral is one of Washington’s most magnificent and stunning structures. Although the foundation stone was laid in 1907, it was not until September 29, 1990, exactly 83 years after ground was broken, that the final stone was set in place.

This walk tells the story of one 20th –Century Greek-born sculptor and artist, Constantine Seferlis, who devoted nearly 20 years to carving the stone that brought the National Cathedral to life. Led by Seferlis’ son, Clift, a stone carver in his own right, you will walk the beautiful grounds and hear the cathedral’s history as only someone who knows the building intimately can tell it.

An optional social reception (with food and drinks at your own expense) at a local establishment follows the tour.

Suggested Attire: Casual.

Directions: Washington National Cathedral
3001 Wisconsin Ave, N.W. , Washington, D.C.
(corner of Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues, N.W.)

Cost: $25.00

Have you had your fill of musical nights? Well, why not go for a night at the theatre instead? As it just so happens that the Eisenhower Theatre has a new performance entitled, Thurgood, staring Laurence Fishburne. It looks like a excellent performance, one you should definitely try to see . It will be running until the 20th so you have plenty of opportunites. Here is what the Eisenhower Theater has to say about Thurgood:

“In Thurgood, Tony Award–winning actor Laurence Fishburne reprises his Broadway role as Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to be appointed to the Supreme Court. From his early days as the civil rights lawyer who argued Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, a landmark case which led to the end of institutionalized segregation, to his appointment to the highest court in the land, Thurgood Marshall stood for justice while lifting the standing of his race.

In a fictional lecture on his life given by Thurgood Marshall at his alma mater, Howard University, Fishburne deftly shifts among characters, moving from Thurgood as a young and spirited man to a pensive Justice full of wisdom, and at times inhabiting the friends and foes that were met along the way. “Fishburne is magnetic as Marshall,” says the New York Daily News. “He captures the justice’s drive and everyday essence as well as his wry–if sometimes crass–wit.” In the end, Thurgood proves that it is possible to work within the rule of law while remaining true to the rule of the heart”

If you live in one of the many rent apartments DC and you’re looking to spend a night in the city, a night of culture, why not spend a night at the theater? For more information on Thurgood and how you can purchase tickets please visit here.

So, the DC Jazz Festival is in full swing, but you’re not feeling in the mood for jazz tonight, or maybe it’s not your cup of tea.

Well no need to worry, since I’ve got you covered with a few other venues for those with an ear for some Indie Rock and Electronica.

Better yet they’re not too far from your apartments DC for rent. Without further delay here are my venue suggestions for the week.

First up, there’s the dance club & music venue, DC9 which has a great line up over the next few days, you can check them out here.

Now if you’re looking for some bands that are a little more main stream, you should probably head over to 9:30. They’ve got great line ups this month, which you can check out here. I highly suggest you try to get tickets to the sold out Passion Pit show on Thursday. If you can’t, don’t fret. There are a bunch of other great acts lined up all weekend long.

Shows I suggest at 9:30:

6/3 – Passion Pit @7pm

6/6 – Kings of Convenience @ 7pm

6/7 – Broken Bells w/ The Morning Benders @ 7pm

6/9 – The Brian Jamestown Massacre @ 7pm

Books for America is your perfect destination. Books for America is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Washington, DC that is having a huge impact on thousands of disadvantaged individuals in the Nation’s Capital and throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Their mission is to promote literacy, life-long learning and understanding by distributing donated new and used books of all types and other forms of educational media to organizations serving disadvantaged communities and individuals.

The majority of their current programs focus on collecting books for children. However, because they collect all types of books, they are able to provide books to people of all ages. This makes Books for America unique among most non-profit organizations in the United States. Recipients include adult and youth literacy programs, youth centers, transitional homeless shelters, hospitals, inner-city and rural schools, military bases, assisted living communities for seniors, veterans hospitals, women’s shelters, hospices, and other such organizations.
